Before getting a job, make a couple of friends and try to increase some of your work attributes. This way, once you get a job, you'll move up the ladder a bit faster.

In Group Talk, Sims never disagree or worry about matching topics with each other. Thus, group activities present nice, safe ways to boost Social and Relationship scores without risking negative interaction.

You May Get My Stuff, but You Won't Get Away.
|
|
When a Burglar comes, wait for him to go back outside, then quickly hit pause (P) and go into Build Mode. Use the Wall & Fence Tool to enclose him in a box with no openings or windows. Then unpause and get one of your Sims to call the police. Don't forget to create an opening in the box when they arrive so they can take that bad burglar away.

Take Away Food Is Easier Than Cooking.
|
|
In the beginning of the game when your Sims don't have enough cooking skill points to safely use the stove, start off by ordering them pizzas when they get hungry. Once they have had time to learn more cooking skills, they will be less likely to set fire to your stove or themselves.
|
|
|
Answer the Phone.
|
|
Never ignore a ringing phone; if you do, your Sims could miss out on some lucrative surprises. The moment you hear the phone ring, hit your P key to pause the action. Then order the closest Sim to answer that phone before it's too late! If you're afraid your Sims won't get there in time, you can always go into Buy mode and temporarily move the phone to a closer location.

Pestering Pays Off.
|
|
When your neighboring Sims say they have better things to do when you invite them over for a visit, try waiting around five minutes Sim-time and call them back. Quite often they'll change their minds and tell you they'll be right over.

Be a Good Host.

Variety is key to keeping your visitors happy. Although it's wise to provide wholesome snacks to your guests while plying them with witty banter, it's just as important to leave them alone so they have time to get up and use the restroom once in awhile.

Fires destroy objects, not houses. Sims are objects and can be lost to fire (as well as to electrocution, starvation, and drowning). If a Sim has less than two cooking skill points, he or she is likely to start a kitchen fire if the stove is used while serving meals. However, the likelihood of fireplace and barbecue fires is not decreased by more cooking skill points. It is most advantageous to place a smoke detector close to these objects. The primary advantages of installing smoke detectors are the reduced risk of losing a Sim life and the instant response of the fire department.

The Perils of Love.
|
|
Falling in love is a wonderful experience and the same is true for a Sim. But while love raises the senses and creates an aura of excitement, fun, and comfort, it also can also create problems. The love aspect of Sim life can be a real tangle. To help untangle the love strings, a few guidelines should be followed: Whether married or not, Sims in love (indicated by the symbol of a heart in their relationship profile) can become very aggressive toward each other or their new friends. The relationship is challenged by any of the following actions: Dance, Hug, Kiss, Flirt, or Give Backrub. If one of these is performed on a Sim in the same room as their paramour, violence may ensue. Your safest options are Talk, Joke, Tickle, Compliment, Insult, Brag, or Ask To Leave. These actions may be invoked without any serious repercussions from a Sim's significant other.

Mail Table.
|
|
Place two small tables (or one large one) by the front door. The Sims will always use this table for dropping off the mail after you send one out to pick it up by clicking the mailbox.This way your dining table stays free so your Sims and their guests can sit down to eat.
|
|
|
Late for Work.
|
|
Don't panic! You have an hour of Sim-time from the moment your carpool arrives to when it pulls away. Use that extra time for your Sims to eat, shower, sleep in, do the dishes, or finish up what they were doing. Just remember it will take a few minutes for them to run out the door.
|

Take the time to create a neighborhood of Sims. As this will make it far easier for your Sims to make friends at a later stage in the game.

Avoid Military School.
|
|
If a kid misses a day of school, his or her Report Card grade drops a whole grade point. Kids can bring grades up by going to school in a good mood or by selecting Study for School at a bookshelf or computer. If a Sim child's grade drops to F and stays there for three days, the kid must go to Military School. If that happens, the family account is charged a one-time fee of $1,000. Worse, your kid leaves the household and disappears into SimSpace, never to return.

Phone a Friend.
|
|
It's impossible to call neighbors who don't have a phone. Make sure you put a phone in every house before you do anything else. Without phones, Sims are hard to reach. Impossible, in fact.

Save Your Money.
|
|
Fight the temptation to buy a lot of big-ticket items early on. Instead, save your money and buy only the bare necessities.
|
|
|
Good Parenting Skills.
|
|
If a baby is quiet, you know both its needs are satisfied. If a baby cries, however, you can't be sure whether Hunger or Energy is low. Feed the baby first. If Hunger reaches zero while you playfully bounce the baby, you risk losing the baby to Child Protective Services. This sad episode can happen anytime (day or night) during the three-day babyhood period.

Sim Family Values.
|
|
It's possible for a Sim to have multiple partners of the same or opposite sex, all living within one household. For any two Sims to sleep in the same bed they must first be in love. Same sex couples do not marry or bring children into the Sim world, but they may get lucky with a phone call from the adoption agency. There are exceptions to the rule, but usually a family Sim (one who has children) who falls in love with a friend of the same sex will never marry that friend regardless of the status of their relationship. Multiple partner families are very difficult to manage without the ever present tendency for a jealous rage to break out. Brawling Sims might be amusing to watch, but there's a chance the fight will cause a Sim to leave. Once a Sim has decided to pack a bag and move out, he or she is never heard from again. Friendship, love, comfort, and fun are the best ways to Sim happiness!

Monday Morning Cheat.
|
|
Press Ctrl-Shift-C to display a cheat box at the upper left of the screen. Then type move_objects on and press the enter key. You can now delete bills, rubbish, or water spills from the floor or even suspend a Sim. This can be done from Build mode, using the little hand to highlight the object you want to delete or suspend and then pressing the Del on your keyboard. A Sim is the only object which cannot be deleted using this cheat. If you try it, the Sim will appear in the "live mode" with a red crosshair on his or her icon. To bring the Sim back into play, just click on the icon. The Sim will return completely refreshed with all needs satisfied. This is a great cheat for Sims who spent the night making new friends and suddenly have only an hour before they need to go to work!
